The BA (Economics/Honours/Economics Honours with Research) is designed to produce graduates trained in the application of knowledge in economics to real-life economic, financial, ethical, and analytical problems encountered in the economy. It is structured to provide the students with the skills and professional acumen to become key players in the economy irrespective of their future job places and the task diversification they would take up.
The programme may enable the students to effectively apply their knowledge and skills to situations of economic, institutional and policy making both in governance and industry. The programme has a rigorous focus on quantitative techniques and research methods which will orient the students in dealing with economic problems with a practical and analytical approach. The diversity and the spread of the programme ensure that the students receive sufficient experience of the current issues and crises of the world, especially that of emerging economies.
The postgraduate course in Applied Economics is the flagship programme of the department of economics with intensive specialisations in areas of finance and development. The uniqueness of the programme is the judicious blend of economic theory accounting for interdisciplinarity and empirical measurement tools. Industrial exposure through internships and visits, mastery in scientific analysis through advanced quantitative methods, statistics, econometrics along with engagements in theory such as in Gender Economics,
Ethics and Economics, Agricultural Economics and so on and latest soft skills make students competent to take up the most challenging careers in business, industry, public sector and advanced academic research. The programme spanning four semesters intends to impart the necessary skills and capabilities to meet the challenges of the everchanging vibrant economic environment.
hD in Economics envisages a probe into the interrelationship of various economic factors. Economic activities have been a major concern of human beings, from the time of their evolution. Economics is a dynamic science. In the past few decades GDP growth in India has taken place largely due to innovation and technology. New and latest methods of production, consumption and distribution laws can be brought to limelight thereby economically strengthening the nation at large.
Through research, new knowledge can be added to the existing one by way of empirical testing such that the knowledge of the discipline serves the needs of government agencies, firms, financial Institutions and developmental organizations.
PhD in Economics is offered in the Central Campus, BGR Campus, Yeshwantpur Campus, NCR Delhi Campus and Pune Lavasa Campus.
BA (Psychology, Economics) the combined majors in economics and psychology offers students the opportunity to integrate the study of economics with psychology These interlinked disciplines have their own exclusive areas of expertise with conceptual and methodological specializations which helps the student to have a clear understanding with regard to their possibilities. While providing the opportunity for an integrated approach, this course provides ample scope to learn the discipline of economics and psychology in depth where students can major either in the discipline of economics or psychology for further studies.
The program offers an eclectic mix of electives that promotes interdisciplinary academic engagement without compromising on discipline-specific identities. In the third year, students will be awarded the Undergraduate degree with Economics and Psychology as the majors. After the successful completion of the three-year degree programme, the students have the option to do an honors programme/honors programme with research either in Psychology or Economics. Option for ability enhancement course is restricted to French/German/Spanish/Additional English only.
